Converting Losers into Winners

In the San Fernando Valley ^**1 a new approach
to reducing gang violence and vandalism is being implemented.

Instead of piling our collective blame, guilt and shame onto struggling young men and threatening them with jail, a group of private citizens is applying a new approach to reducing youth-gang violence and vandalism. Instead of fighting losers, the program focuses on creating winners. Instead of threats, the program uses incentives. This approach involves inviting teens to participate is a self-awareness program that revolves around a self-help training technique called Theta-Healing / Theta Transformation. This approach offers youths new ways of living, new ways of being, and new ways to relate to their external world.

The First step involves instructing them regarding the basic rules of how the universe functions. ^' ^**2 They are taught perspectives on life that are rarely accurately explained anywhere else. They are then taught the essential techniques of Theta Healing /Theta-Transformation. ^' ^**3 With these tools, participants are guided on a step-by-step path of re-creating themselves to be anything they choose to be. They are taught how to create things, situations, and experiences that, for them, were previously impossible.

Instead of destruction, the program focuses on creation. Instead of treating symptoms, the program seeks, finds, and resolves the root causes of problems. Instead of applying "more of the same" or doing "the same thing harder," the program uses an approach and takes actions that have not previously been applied to this problem. Instead of spending a hundred or so million dollars on a major, unproven project, (innovation) the program is spending only a few thousand dollars on tried and tested ways of making personal transformations in small, doable increments (kaizen). Treating Symptoms:

Shall we continue to treat symptoms, or shall we focus on resolving our problems? Youths seeking their manhood through gang violence are a symptom of a much bigger problem. For as long as this author can remember, society has focused on treating this symptom as if it, itself, was the problem. Although some people have done and are doing much laudable work regarding this symptom, the root causes underneath these external expressions of anger, frustration, and desperation have largely been ignored.

Where Is the Problem:

The petty hoodlums roaming our streets at night are not the real criminals. They're desperate kids gone mad in a very sick world. They're a symptom of a much deeper problem. The real criminals are the fairytale beliefs that rule both our lives and their lives. Fairytales like: We are separate from nature. We are separate from Creator/God. We are separate from each other. We are powerless victims of our external world. Punishment solves problems. We can destroy our environment and not reap the consequences. Et cetera. etc. etc. . .

What do you suppose the consequences are of plugging unprovable fairytales into our children's minds as if those stories were provable facts? What do you suppose the consequences are of destroying a child's healthy self image and replacing it with the belief that they are hopelessly and inherently evil?

A Ticket to Oblivion:

Business-as-Usual has become a ticket to oblivion: To date, treating symptoms has kept humanity alive, mostly on the survival level. But drastic changes in the social, political, economic, religious, and environmental conditions on Earth have changed all that. Human survival as a species is on the line now. You may believe this to be a wild exaggeration, but the evidence tells us otherwise.
